Experienced defender eyes Pirelli return
Guy Branston believes he could still have a future at Burton despite being sent out on loan to Torquay.
The experienced defender had been named skipper by manager Paul Peschisolido earlier in the club's maiden Football League campaign.
But with injuries mounting and Branston shown his second red card of the season in the 1-1 draw against Shrewsbury last month, Peschisolido brought in Tom Parkes on loan from Leicester.
And the 18-year-old impressed so much that the Brewers' boss was willing to let Branston join League Two strugglers Torquay for the rest of the season.
"I asked the manager if he wanted me to go, and he did, so I thought I might as well go where I'm wanted," Branston told
skysports.com.
"I was captain earlier in the season so it did take me by surprise but these things happen in football. You've just got to be professional and get on with it, and that's what I've done - I've come down here and got on with it.
"Torquay were really interested, I spoke to the chief executive and chairman before I came down and I was happy to join them."
Honest
Branston, 31, insists there is no animosity between himself and Peschisolido.
The former Rotherham and Peterborough defender has another year on his contract at Burton and the Brewers boss has given him every indication he can return to the Pirelli Stadium and be an asset next season.
"The gaffer signed Tom Parkes from Leicester and he did really well when I was suspended so the gaffer said he was going to play him until the end of the season," said Branston.
"That was understandable because Tom came in and did tremendously, so I said if that's what you want to do, that's what you've got to do.
"There was no fall-out - more than anything, the gaffer was honest and decent about it.
"He just said 'go there and get some games, come back in the summer and we'll see what happens', and that's all you can ask for from a manager."
Luck
Branston has now played three games for Torquay, with Saturday's 2-1 home defeat by Port Vale leaving the Gulls six points above the bottom two and without a win in nine.
But Branston is confident Paul Buckle's youthful squad can soon haul themselves clear of relegation trouble.
"They're a good club and they play some really good football but we're just not getting any luck at the minute," he said.
"It's a difficult situation where things aren't going for you but sometimes that happens when you're at the bottom of the table.
"It's a young team but we're all working our socks off and hopefully things will turn round soon. Like Burton, they got promoted last season so as long as they stay up I think they'll be happy."
