Former France international in running for role

Marcel Desailly has put himself in the running for the vacant Ghana job but has insisted no deal is yet in place. The former French international was born in the Ghana capital of Accra before moving to France as a four-year-old. However he is still a keen follower of Ghana's progress and has become a surprise contender to take the role as manager of the Black Stars, following the departure of Milan Rajovac after reaching the quarter-finals of the World Cup this summer. The 42-year-old has never had a role in management, instead opting to become a TV pundit after an enormously successful career where he won almost every major honour with AC Milan, Chelsea and France.

Nothing done

"Nothing is done. All parties seem okay on my project, from the minister to the president of the federation, but we must wait," Desailly told L'Equipe. "I'm surrounded by a team that includes English speakers, because I do not want to make some errors from the past. "The Ghana team has a very good structure. I'm available. We must now talk about money and how exactly it would work. "Here in the English-speaking countries, there are many committees who have to meet. We'll see but everyone seems to agree on my candidacy."
