Former Nigeria star wants more from squad

Former Nigeria international Garba Lawal has called on all of the Super Eagles' fringe players to up their game. With new coach Lars Lagerback now in charge, there is a clean slate for all the players hoping to make the trip to South Africa for the World Cup later this year. Lawal wants to see greater competition within the Nigerian ranks, which can only be a good thing for the game in the west African country. The 35-year-old, who currently plays for Lobi Stars, told the Daily Trust: "This is an opportunity for the players to use the chances available to them especially now there is a new technical adviser for the Super Eagles." Lagerback revealed shortly after being appointed by the Nigeria Football Federation that he would be looking at all the players before deciding upon his 23-man squad for the world's greatest event.
