British rapper Example has risen to prominence in recent times and his popularity is quickly growing worldwide. The London-born star's album, 'Won't Go Quietly' was released in June and has taken the UK charts by storm. His single of the same name came in at N0.6 in the charts and this was followed up by 'Kickstarts', which entered at No.3. He describes his recent work as dysfunctional electro-pop and his new album had contributions from producers Calvin Harris and Chase & Status. A lifelong Fulham fan, Example told World Cup Gold about his most notable memories of competitions gone by.

World Cup memories

Italia '90
My earliest memory was Gazza in the 1990 finals and I remember my Dad being really upset. I was only seven or eight and seeing your Dad crying, that has more of an impact on you! There was the Roger Milla celebration as well - that rings true too.
USA '94
I remember Maradona being off his nuts in 1994 - when he ran up to the camera and looked like a completely possessed nutter! But my most memorable thing about that World Cup was that England weren't in it - completely useless.
France '98 and Ronaldo missing the final
Of the rumours, there was one that he was ill and that he fell out with the management staff. I remember Brazil saying they would have won if he was fit. That was 12 years ago - ridiculous!
Japan and South Korea 2002 and Ronaldinho's free-kick
I remember everybody was sweating a lot. I remember the press saying we would have to adapt to the heat and the weather and they're not going to last five minutes. I was at university and we were on a football tour in Cyprus and we watched it (England versus Brazil) over there. Everybody was really up for it despite it being on at a ridiculous time in the morning over there and I remember Ronaldinho's goal and thinking - we've got no chance now. You don't want say it, but he meant it.
Germany 2006
That was a complete let down. To be honest that World Cup was a joke. I never liked the manager, I didn't take him seriously and it was a joke. The players were taken in completely the wrong light and everyone thought we were jokers. They went over thinking they were celebrities. The most memorable thing about that was the lessons learned. Restoring order and actually having someone who was going to be hard on the players and someone they actually respect. Everyone knows Sven (Goran Eriksson) and (Steve) McClaren were a couple of jokers. Example's New album 'Won't Go Quietly' is out now.
