The Real Banksy recreates That Save against Pele

Gordon Banks and The Football Pools have recreated his famous save against Pele at the 1970 World Cup finals through a Banksy-style drawing to create a good luck film to the England team.

Recalling the save against Brazil’s number 10, the 1966 World Cup winner says: "I had to make up a lot of ground to get to my right hand post, it was a great header low to my right and Pele, like the rest of the world watching including myself, thought it was a goal.

"I got a strong hand to it, but when I looked up to my right I assumed to see it in the net and couldn’t believe it when I saw it bouncing towards the perimeter boards."

Banks, 76 returned to The Britannia Stadium to help create the good luck film to the England team which included a stencil style image of the save and a voiceover wishing his luck to Roy Hodgson’s team.

Looking ahead to England’s chances Banks believes Joe Hart is the right man between the posts ahead of England’s opener:

"Joe Hart is our number one and has been since the 2010 World Cup and I personally wouldn’t want anyone else in goal for us at this tournament. I think we have a great chance to get out of the group and then who knows, the lads just need to enjoy the experience."
