A Sunday League football manager accused of punching a linesman unconscious has been cleared of assault by a jury at Leicester Crown Court.

Joshua Dixon, 23 and from Leicester, manages Phoenix United and admitted punching James Hawkes, who helps run Oadby Owls in the Leicester Alliance Sunday League, but claimed he acted in self-defence.

Mr Hawkes had been running the line and the defendant had disputed an offside decision.

He was cleared of assault causing actual bodily harm by a majority verdict.
