Former captain Jayne Ludlow has been named as the new manager of the Wales women’s national side.
The 35-year-old replaces Finn Jarmo Matikainen whose four-year tenure ended after Wales missed out on qualification for the 2015 World Cup in Canada following defeat to Ukraine in their final qualifying game.
Ludlow is manager and director of football at FA Women’s Super League 2 side Reading Women and will remain in that role until her contract expires in November.
She won 26 major titles during 13 years as a player with Arsenal Ladies and remains the club’s all-time record goal scorer.
The former midfielder, who has also played for Millwall Lionesses and Southampton Saints, scored 19 goals in 61 appearances for Wales before retiring from international football in 2012.
Ludlow has also had recent involvement with the Wales U16 side as a coach.
