Chelsea beat Everton 5-2 to move closer to the FA Women’s Super League 1 title.

Rachel Williams and Eniola Aluko both scored twice in the first-half to keep the Blues two points clear at the top ahead of next weekend’s deciding clash with Manchester City.

Striker Williams headed in Aluko’s cross after just 37 seconds, but the hosts were briefly denied a second when Rachel Finnis-Brown saved Yuki Ogimi’s penalty.

Ogimi soon made amends, sending in a defence splitting pass for Aluko to add a second in the 12th minute, but Lucy Whipp pulled one back when she rounded goalkeeper Marie Hourihan.

Everton continued their fightback as Nikita Parris levelled the score in the 33rd minute with a fine individual effort.

However Chelsea hit back, with Williams smashing home on 36 minutes and Aluko pouncing on a defensive mix up just before the break to make it 4-2.

There was just the solitary goal in the second-half as Hannah Blundell completed the scoring following a jinking run in the 80th minute.

Birmingham kept their own title hopes alive after Karen Carney’s late strike snatched a 2-1 win over Manchester City.

But City must defeat Notts County and hope for a final day slip-up from Chelsea if they are to snatch the silverware.

Carney had earlier opened the scoring for the visitors, but Jill Scott levelled with a superb strike before the Birmingham player pounced on a poor clearance from Karen Bardsley in the 87th minute.

Liverpool also have an outside chance of taking the crown after Gemma Davison’s late goal rescued a 3-3 draw at Arsenal.

A double from Jordan Nobbs put the Gunners in command, but Fara Williams pulled one back for the Reds before Casey Stoney re-established the home side’s two-goal advantage.

Nicole Rolser’s second-half strike gave Liverpool fresh hope and Davison netted in stoppage time, leaving her side three points adrift of Chelsea with just one game left.
