Valbuena brace helps holders into the semi-finals

Marseille remain on course for a third consecutive French League Cup success following a comfortable 3-0 victory over Caen. Didier Deschamps' side booked their place in the semi-finals on Tuesday courtesy of a Mathieu Valbuena brace and a Loic Remy strike. Marseille took the lead in the seventh minute, with Valbuena's immaculate free-kick leaving Caen keeper Thomas Bosmel with no chance. Remy, who has again been linked with a move to Tottenham, doubled their lead on 21 minutes.

Exquisite

The France international displayed an exquisite touch to control a Morgan Amalfitano half-volley and tap into an unguarded net for his 13th goal of a productive campaign. Seven minutes into the second half Marseille wrapped up the win and ensured it would be they who take their place in the last four. Valbuena was left all alone to roll in number three, with Lucho Gonzalez showing some neat footwork in the build-up to open up space for his colleague. Caen did hit the woodwork late on through Fajcal Fajr, but their cup dreams had long since been dashed by then.
