Brest coach expected to sign contract extension

Brest coach Alex Dupont is poised to pen a new deal with the club, with only a few details left to be ironed out. It is understood that fresh terms have been put to the highly respected coach, with the agreement set to take him through to 2014. Club president Michel Guyot is confident Dupont will commit himself to the Ligue 1 outfit, with it possible that an improved contract could be put in place by the time Brest face Toulouse on Wednesday. "There are more than just a few loose ends, but on the merits we agree," Guyot told L'Equipe. Dupont led Brest to promotion in 2009/10 and has helped to stabilise the club in the French top-flight, with an immediate return to the second tier avoided last term. They sit 11th in the table ahead of a midweek meeting with high-flying Toulouse, but are still looking over their shoulder as only three points separate them from the drop zone.

Modest

Troubles on the road have been the problem, with Brest yet to secure their first victory of the season away from home. Dupont is keen to address that issue as soon as possible, with it vital that consistency is established if the club are to avoid being dragged into a basement battle. "They say the second season after promotion can be the most difficult, but we are trying to grow modestly and humbly," he said in La Depeche. "For us to have a good season, first and foremost we need to have a good run at home so opponents do not want to come to Brest, and that is the case now. "Away from home, we have taken few points but I believe we are stronger, we can hold our own. Do not forget that at the start of the season we had many injuries."
