Newly promoted side release veteran striker amid tactics change
Bundesliga new boys FC Augsburg have confirmed the release of veteran striker Michael Thurk.
The 35-year-old had 12 months remaining on the deal he signed in 2008, but a change in tactics following promotion to Germany's top flight has left him surplus to requirements.
Augsburg claim the decision has come on 'amicable' terms, and they thank him for his services as he begins his search for a new club.
"Michael Thurk has been a successful player of FC Augsburg, this is why we are looking to come to an amicable settlement with him," said general manager Andreas Rettig.
"We part on good terms, but Michael Thurk is no longer taking part in the training or matches of the club."
Club manager Jos Luhukay added: "First and foremost, it's because of sporting reasons that have made us decide this. After changing our tactics there is no position left for Michael."
