GRIFFIN INJURY SET BACK

Newcastle full-back Andy Griffin will be sidelined for two months with an injury to his back.

Griffin has not played for the first team this year because of the injury, and has yet to make a mark in the Toon since his £1.5 million transfer from Nationwide League side Stoke.

Hopes of a come-back for the youngster were boosted by an appearance for the reserves against Sunderland last week but a recurrence of the injury have set back any plans for an assault on the first team for at least a couple of months.

Griffin told reporters that he is upset by the news and fears the injury stems from his youth.

It`s a real sickener, I think it goes back to when I was 16 or 17₻I must have had a stress fracture in my back."
