BEST ONE OF THE BEST

FORMER Manchester United legend George Best is to be inducted into the International Football Hall of Champions during January`s prestigious Fifa world player gala.

The one time Northern Ireland star will join past Brazilian giants Didi and Zico, and ex-Dutch striker Marco Van Basten as new members in the only hall of fame recognised by Fifa.

The player graced Old Trafford during the late sixties and seventies but his career spiralled out of control as he battled with alcoholism. Best (pictured) will receive his accolade during a gala in Brussels on January 24.

At the same ceremony the World Footballer of the Year will be announced, and Red Devils star David Beckham is on a three player short list for the award. The England midfielder is vying with Brazilian Rivaldo, the European Footballer of the Year, and Argentine hit-man Gabriel Batistuta.

The award is voted on by 140 national coaches.
