SIR BOBBY BLASTS BECKS

SIR BOBBY CHARLTON has become embroiled in the media frenzy over David Beckham, admitting he feels the midfielder "lives in a different world," but the England star has received an unexpected vote of confidence from Chelsea new-boy George Weah.

Charlton, one of the stars in England`s 1966 World Cup winning side, thinks that Beckham`s temperament may stop him ever being one of the greatest players.

"He wants to be the best in the world, he wants to play in the World Cup, he wants to play every match and win every match but he has to have self-discipline," Charlton said.

"He`s done well since June 1998 but there`s always an opportunity for someone like him to explode if the situation is right - David has got a short fuse.

"Of course I speak to him but not about his personal life. He`s a nice lad but he`s living in a different world at the moment - and it`s not a world I can tell you about.

"The only thing that David Beckham has to protect is his future as a footballer - he must learn to have respect for his opponents because they are in the same business as him."

However former World Footballer of the Year, George Weah, thinks that Beckham is one of the greats already and the former AC Milan star can see the play-maker going on to win the World wide acclaim of Fifa`s best player award.

"Every time I see Beckham I think he is a Spice Boy but but he is a great player. I love his style of play, he`s very intelligent," said Weah.

"If he wins [the World Player of the Year] I hope he goes on to respect what he has done as a player, because he deserves it."
