GUNNED DOWN
AC MILAN`S unsettled centre back Bruno N`Gotty has completed a loan switch to fellow Serie A side Venezia, but he revealed that Arsenal made an audacious late bid to secure his services.
The 28-year-old divulged his feelings about the move, stating that he would have preferred a move back to France. "I wanted to find a club where I can play regular football," said N`Gotty.
"I would like to be back in France, but things didn`t work out well. I also had a very interesting offer from Arsenal, but I wasn`t guaranteed first team football."
Gunners boss Arsene Wenger has made no secret of his need for a defensive lynchpin, and French international N`Gotty (pictured) would have added much needed strength to a weakened back line.
England veteran Tony Adams has struggled with a series of injury setbacks, Matthew Upson is a long-term casualty with cruciate ligament damage and the sale of Steve Bould to Sunderland has left Wenger with very few defensive options.
The French supremo is relying on Martin Keown and Gilles Grimandi to preserve the north London club`s ailing title challenge.
