RYAN WANTS GREEN-ER PASTURES

RYAN GREEN has stunned Wolves by slapping in a written transfer request after becoming disenchanted at his lack of first-team opportunities at the Midlands club.

Wolves manager Colin Lee acted quickly to the request by axing the 19-year-old from the first-team squad. Lee has made it clear there is a future for Green if he removes his request but until then he will not be part of the senior squad.

Lee said:"I don`t want anyone involved who doesn`t want to play for us. I`m hoping to speak to him again very quickly, but he won`t train with the first team or be considered for senior games for the time being.

"I`ve already told Ryan he can go out on loan if the move is beneficial to him and to us, and I don`t think he will find the grass greener anywhere else. He gets good coaching here and we feel he has the makings of a good player.

"But I don`t feel he`s ready for the first team yet because I rate Kevin Muscat and Darren Bazeley ahead of him as right-backs. I know we`re still using Steve Sedgley while he is transfer-listed, but there is no comparison for me.

"Steve is out of contract in the summer, Ryan has another three years."

Green became the second youngest full international with any of the home nations in 1998 but has played only one Wolves first-team game since appearing for Wales in summer friendlies in Malta and Tunisia just prior to France `98.

That was against Sheffield United just after Lee had taken over from Mark McGhee and the Cardiff youngster is known to have been upset at not being in the 16 for the recent FA Cup replay against Sheffield Wednesday, for which Muscat was suspended.

Lee added:"Ryan has been in our squad for most games this season and has been substitute on many occasions without getting on."

Green has been lauded as one of the best youngsters to come out of Wolves` much-improved youth policy and if he is intent on leaving will attract a large fee.
