SEAMAN UNDER PRESSURE!

DAVID SEAMAN`S England goalkeeper`s spot could be under serious pressure, according to the results of the most recent optasoccer.com poll.

The poll, which asked readers to vote for their choice as the best goalkeeper in the Premiership, saw Seaman poll only 2% of almost 8,000 votes after enduring a disappointing season which has seen injury and loss of form blight him.

His closest rival for the England jersey, Nigel Martyn, saw a number of good recent performances reflected in a poll-winning 30% of the votes.

The Leeds custodian, despite seeing the Whites suffer a slump in form recently, has been in outstanding form this season as the Yorkshire side surged to the top of the Premiership and has been touted by many as the successor to Seaman for not just after Euro 2000, but possibly for the tournament itself.

Tim Flowers, who has produced a series of magnificent displays for Leicester in their charge to the Worthington Cup final, came a close second in the poll, with 27% of all the votes, confirming that his hopes of being third choice goalkeeper for this summer`s tournament are not ill-founded.

Middlesbrough stopper Mark Schwarzer came third in the poll with 14% of the votes, with local rival Thomas Sorensen of Sunderland gaining a credible 9% for his impressive form this season, which led to him being offered a new contract recently.

Seaman was one of four goalkeepers to poll just 2% of the votes, with Manchester United`s Mark Bosnich, West Ham`s Shaka Hislop and Ed de Goey being the others.

Wimbledon`s Scottish number one Neil Sullivan polled only a surprise 1% of the votes, while 11% of optasoccer.com`s readers voted for a different goalkeeper.

The current poll on optasoccer.com is now asking you to vote for who you believe to be the best defender in the Premiership, with Manchester United colossus Jaap Stam, Leeds and South Africa captain Lucas Radebe and Liverpool`s highly rated Sami Hyypia all included. Result of the optasoccer.com goalkeeper poll: 30% - Nigel Martyn (Leeds United) 27% - Tim Flowers (Leicester City) 14% - Mark Schwarzer (Middlesbrough) 11% - Other 9% - Thomas Sorensen (Sunderland) 2% - David Seaman (Arsenal) 2% - Mark Bosnich (Man United) 2% - Shaka Hislop (West Ham) 2% - Ed de Goey (Chelsea) 1% - Neil Sullivan (Wimbledon)
