MAUGE OUT FOR SEASON

RONNIE MAUGE has been ruled out of the rest of Bristol Rovers` season after breaking his leg while playing for Trinidad and Tobago in the Gold Cup on Monday.

The midfielder is in a Californian hospital after being stretchered off in the 4-0 defeat by Mexico and, although the seriousness of the injury is not yet confirmed, it is expected that he will not play again before the summer.

"Even with a minor break you are out for six weeks," said Rovers assistant manager Gary Penrice. "With the rehabilitation time needed in addition to that, we are looking at the end of the season.

"I`m more concerned for Ronnie than ourselves. I`ve broken my leg twice in the past and I really feel for him. We are all hoping that the injury is not too bad and that he can recover from it.

"Apparently it took a while to get him off the pitch - which doesn`t sound too good," he added. "We`ve got our fingers crossed for him. He`s a good player and a real winner and of course we will miss him.

"He gives us that nasty streak that every team needs. With Dave Pritchard and Simon Bryant also injured at the moment our squad is going to be tested, but I always say that you find out how strong you are in adversity."

Meanwhile, the club were given a boost when young midfielder Lee Zabek has returned to training after missing the last month with an ankle injury.
