CARBONE TALKS GOING WELL

BENITO CARBONE could be set to seal a permanent move to Aston Villa but his wages will be nowhere near £40,000-a-week, according to Villa boss John Gregory.

The Italian striker was reported to have asked for extortionate wages, in the region of £38,000, but Gregory is confident that a deal can be sorted out.

He said: "The figures we are talking about are nowhere near as high as £40,000, we`ve had a good chat with Beni`s people and now we have got to the nitty-gritty."

"Negotiations like this tend to be long, drawn-out affairs and I expect this will go on for two more weeks. But we definitely want Beni to stay."

The 28-year-old crowd favourite, who netted a hat-trick in the FA Cup against Leeds United, is a free agent in the summer and has already attracted interest from top European clubs including Italian giants Roma.
