ADE ISSUES APOLOGY

A LITTLE over 48 hours after being sent-off for a disgraceful head-butt on Nottingham Forest`s Tony Vaughan, Wolverhampton Wanderers striker Ade Akinbiyi has issued a public apology.

The 25-year-old, who has been fined the maximum two-weeks` wages by boss Colin Lee, denied his actions were prompted by a racist remark.

"My actions were not sparked by anything that was said. It was just the adrenaline flowing," the former Gillingham star said.

"I was wound up with myself because I realised what I had done," he continued in reference to the heated argument he had with his captain Keith Curle, who was trying to escort him away from the melee.

"I have nobody to blame but myself, I am just glad that my little boy was not there."

Akinbiyi`s strike partner Michael Branch was also in hot water with his manager following the incident packed game.

The 21-year-old unwittingly intercepted a Dave Beasant clearance to score - unaware that the keeper was putting the ball into touch so a Wolves player could receive treatment.

Lee hauled Branch into his office, despite it being a players` day-off, to explain his actions.

The former Everton man still pleaded his innocence, saying: "Once I realised what had happened I was absolutely gutted. It was a genuine mistake."
