RIVALDO TOPS FOREIGNER POLL

RIVALDO would be the public`s choice as the most popular foreigner to grace the Premiership - after an overwhelming 24% of people voting in the Opta poll vote chose the Brazilian.

Unfortunately, the Samba star has already stated that if he leaves Barcelona it will be for Serie A.

Indeed, it is the Italian league that provided the main contenders for our viewers` foreigner `wish-list` with Fiorentina`s Argentinian marksman, Gabriel Batistuta in clear second place with 466 of the 2806 votes that we received.

`Batigol` is a much more likely candidate to play in the Premiership next year - having already admitted that he would love a move to Manchester United.

Zinedine Zidane is enjoying something of a resurgence in form with Juventus, and the French World Cup winner also managed the bronze medal in our poll - 11% of people hoping that an English club can lure him to the Premiership.

Andrei Shevchenko is the most prolific striker in Serie A with 19 goals so far this season, and AC Milan`s `new van Basten` would be welcomed by 9% of Optasoccer aficionados polling a nicely rounded 250 votes.

Fifth place saw the brilliant, but injury hit star, Ronaldo pick up 220 votes (8%) narrowly beating our first Spaniard Raul, who grabbed 7%

It is a big drop down to Christian Vieri in seventh position, it is not clear if people consider the world`s most expensive player a luxury or they realise that most English clubs could not afford his massive £32 million asking price, but nevertheless he grabbed just 91 votes, 3% of the total.

Sergie Rebrov and Marcelo Gallardo propped up the poll with 85 and 60 votes respectively.

A massive 438 voters decided that they would like to see a different foreigner in amongst the Premiership - with obvious candidates for a few votes being Alessandro Del Piero and Robert Pires.
