SHERINGHAM WANTS TO STAY
The 33-year-old has been linked with moves to several clubs, both in the English leagues and abroad, with his contract ending in the summer, but the mercurial marksman is in talks with United manager Sir Alex Ferguson with a mind to continuing his career with the Red Devils.
Talking in the Sunday People, Sheringham said: "We`re still talking about the contract, but if I didn`t want to stay here I wouldn`t be trying to sort out a new contract.
"It`s been a fantastic couple of years for me, and I believe that there`s more that I can win here. I`m at a great club that is challenging for all the big honours, and I still want to be a part of that.
"It`s the big games like last season`s Champions Cup final that players remember in their career and I want to be part of more of those occasions."
The former Spurs star also told of how his long-term girlfriend - Nicola Smith`s friendship with summer signing Mark Bosnich`s wife has played a key part in his desire to remain in Manchester.
"It was a big decision to leave London and I have to be honest and say that it took a long time to settle - more so for Nicola than me really.
"Luckily though, Mark Bosnich joined the club from Aston Villa last summer and his wife Sara has become a great friend of Nicola`s.
"I was always worried about her being lonely with no good friends in Manchester, but now she has a soulmate and that`s taken a lot of the pressure off of me."
