The diminutive striker has completed the move to the Stadium of Light ahead of Thursday`s 5pm deadline and the fee is expected to rise to £2.6 million dependant on appearances.
The North East club`s boss Peter Reid revealed his delight at signing the Honduran, saying: "He has something I thought we were missing, that bit of extra pace up front, and I`m looking forward to seeing what he can do for us."
The 27-year-old forward, who scored for his country against Colombia on his most recent international outing, stated his relief at signing. "I am very happy to be moving to England and joining Sunderland," Nunez (pictured) said.
"I first noticed Sunderland in 1995-96 when they won the Championship. I think I have come to a great team and will do my best for the club. I am really looking forward to playing here," he continued.
