COLLINS TO SEE OUT CONTRACT

EVERTON boss Walter Smith has welcomed John Collins` re-think over his future at Goodison Park and his desire to see out his contact.

The Scottish midfielder had indicated that he wanted to leave the club in the summer but will now stay with the Merseysiders until at least 2001.

Smith is extremely happy at the news and said: "I`m absolutely delighted that John will be staying. It is a big boost for us because he has been playing exceptionally well recently.

"In the last six or eight weeks, he has played consistently well and started a lot of our attacking moves. Also he`s scored some good goals."

Collins was not especially forthcoming with his reason for the U-turn, only saying: "We`re playing some really good football at the moment and playing the way I believe football should be played."
