CARLOS IN ALLEGED BETTING PROBE

REAL MADRID'S inspirational Brazilian defender Roberto Carlos could be in hot water with Uefa for reportedly winning a substantial amount of money after allegedly placing a five-figure bet on the correct score of 3-2 in Wednesday night's victory over Manchester United.

It is illegal for a footballer to gamble on games they take part in, the recent affair involving Steve Claridge of Portsmouth a case in point.

The former Leicester front-man placed a wager on his side defeating Barnsley in a recent Nationwide Division One match. After admitting the flutter, and claiming his winnings, Claridge was hauled before the FA and fined £900 with a warning over his future conduct.

The case of Carlos, if proved, is of a much higher profile and could see the player face a lengthy suspension, if the breaking reports are proved to be correct.
