CAMARA`S FLASH ATTITUDE BODES WELL FOR UNITED

PERHAPS the biggest pointer last week to why next season`s Premiership may again be headed by Manchester United was not the record swoop for Ruud van Nilsterooy, but a matter on Merseyside instead.

Titi Camara`s revelation that he was not prepared to accept a rotation policy at Liverpool will be the sort of news that will fill Gerard Houllier with dread.

"I am not happy about being in and out of the team at Liverpool, and I believe a move would be best for me," said the former Marseille man.

The Anfield boss has insisted that he needs four quality strikers at the club next season if he is to mount an expected challenge to United`s supremacy, amidst rumours that other clubs are pursuing Camara and Robbie Fowler.

Guinean goal-getter Camara is an exciting, unpredictable talent but clearly could not claim to be a better player than either Ole Gunnar Solskjaer or Teddy Sheringham, at this stage of his Premiership career.

However, his reluctance to accept that football has fast become a squad, rather than a team game, will blight Houllier`s hopes of wresting the title from Sir Alex Ferguson`s grasp.

Louis van Gaal highlighted the problem, before his Barcelona side`s 5-1 demolition of Chelsea in the Champions League. "There is only one club of a similar size to Barcelona who keep winning and that is Manchester United," he said.

"The rest struggle at times, as we do. Sir Alex Ferguson rotates his squad and they accept it. Here they would not. That is the attitude and you can only ask them to do what you want."

On clinching the title, Ferguson rightly praised his side`s team spirit and camaraderie - and that could be a facet that his latest acquisition will also acknowledge.

Harry van Raaij`s farewell to van Nistelrooy was tinged with sadness - "I will miss him as a human being and a football player" - and there is little doubt that Ferguson will trust him to display his human qualities in keeping United at the pinnacle of the game, both domestically and in Europe.
