TOLDO REJECTS UNITED OVERTURES

FIORENTINA president Vittorio Cecchi Gori has announced he is going to sell one of the club`s best players, however, if, as expected, it is star goalkeeper Francesco Toldo, he has told his club he does not want to go to Manchester United.

The newly-crowned Premiership champions have been constantly linked to keepers as they look to find a replacement for the dominant Peter Schmeichel.

According to reports from Italy, United have made a higher offer but Toldo is more impressed with the Roma fans and would like a move to the Italian capital.

Toldo is almost certain to figure in Dino Zoff`s Italy squad for Euro 2000, but he will face stiff competition for the number one jersey from Parma keeper Gianluigi Buffon.

The Red Devils could now turn their attention to Monaco`s World Cup-winning keeper Fabien Barthez, as manager Sir Alex Ferguson remains unconvinced by the long-term reliability of Australian shot stopper Mark Bosnich.
