MEGSON RELEASES SKIPPER FLYNN

GARY MEGSON has begun the remoulding of his West Brom side that narrowly escaped relegation last season, by releasing club captain Sean Flynn.

The whole-hearted midfielder has been released along with Andy McDermott, Graham Potter and Mark Angel, whose contracts have all now expired.

A club statement read: "West Bromwich Albion Football Club would like to thank the players for their effort."

Flynn, 31, signed for his boyhood heroes three years ago for £260,000 from Coventry and made 99 starts in a Baggies shirt scoring seven times - two of which were in the last few games as The Baggies battled to avoid the drop.

Megson has also transfer-listed Dutch striker Fabian Defreites who was dropped for the final games of the season.

The flame-haired manager has been assured that he will be given money to spend by chairman Paul Thompson as he strives to build a side that will be battling at the other end of the table next term and one initial move may be to offer a permanent contract to Georges Santos who was on a short term deal at The Hawthorns after signing on Transfer Deadline Day.

Megson commented: "He's done well for us and helped keep us up," Megson said. "I'll have to sit down with him and work things out."

Other loan signings Des Lyttle from Watford and Chelsea`s Neil Clement have returned to their clubs after helping secure The Baggies` safety this season.
