THURAM IN UNITED NO-GO
The Parma defender was linked to Old Trafford by The Independent, and subsequently by a number of news sources, in the wake of Sir Alex Ferguson`s comments that he rates both the Frenchman, and Juan Sebastian Veron.
The story gathered pace with the `revelation` from Tottenham`s director of football, David Pleat, that Sol Campbell will at least see out his contract at White Hart Lane. Although Pleat had made this statement some weeks earlier, some took it as signalling the end of United`s chase for the centre back.
Campbell is holding more talks with Spurs throughout the summer and, if he does not come to an agreement over a new deal, then United would certainly renew their interest next year, when the player would be available on a Bosman free transfer.
Ferguson had already confirmed that Thuram is simply unobtainable, and the player suggested as much when quizzed on the subject of a possible move to Old Trafford on Wednesday.
"I signed, only a few weeks ago, a contract that ties me to Parma for more seasons," explained the 1998 World Cup semi final hero. "My decision is that I remain here."
