SHERI SIGNS NEW DEAL
The 34-year-old striker`s contract was due to run out at the end of the month and was initially expected to leave the club on a Bosman Ruling free transfer, although in the last few months he hinted that he would instead stay with the Premiership champions.
Before Ruud van Nistelrooy`s record-breaking move to Old Trafford fell through, Sheringham seemed certain to leave the club, but Sir Alex Ferguson`s public declarations that he will not sign another striker this summer and that he wanted the player to stay seem to have swayed him from choosing a move to pastures new.
"I have had a fabulous three years here," the former England international said. "I have decided to stay in an attempt to win more trophies."
Despite never really establishing himself as a regular in the United side, since his £3.5 million switch from Tottenham, Sheringham has scored some crucial goals including strikes in last season`s FA Cup and Champions League finals.
