NIELSEN LIKELY TO QUIT SPURS

DANISH international Allan Nielsen admits his chances of staying at Tottenham Hotspur are "only 50-50" and looks set to leave White Hart Lane this summer.

The midfielder was out of favour with manager George Graham and went on loan to First Division Wolves to get some first team football for the last three months of the season.

Nielsen feared his place in the Danish squad for Euro 2000 would have been jeopardised had he not been playing regularly.

Nielsen said: "I need to be playing first team football to keep my place in the Denmark side and that has not happened at Spurs. When I signed a new contract last year, it was explained to me that there would be a big squad with a rotation system. But I didn't think I was getting a fair chance, which is why I asked to go on loan."

A £1.6 million signing from Danish club Brondby in 1996, Nielsen is best remembered for his winning goal in the Worthington Cup Final over Leicester City a year ago, but he only started eight games last season for Spurs.

A move abroad seems likely for the Dane with Fiorentina and Kaiserslautern showing interest. Nielsen spent time previously in the Bundesliga with Bayern Munich.

"There is interest in me from clubs abroad as well as in England, so I don't know where I will end up. It may be that Euro 2000 could act as a shop window for me."
