PARS PLAY DOWN BABB MOVE

DUNFERMLINE ATHLETIC chairman John Yorkston has denied they have made a bid for Liverpool's out-of-contract defender Phil Babb.

As reported by planetfootball.com,  the 29-year-old was a target along with West Ham's Neil Ruddock to join the East End Park side.

A Republic of Ireland international, Babb played in the 2-1 defeat against Scotland in Dublin last week.

Yorkston said: "We made an inquiry about him through his agent a while ago, but that was as far as it went and he will definitely not be coming to Dunfermline.

"Babb was one of the names on Jimmy Calderwood's list of players for positions he wants to strengthen, but the sort of money the agent was talking about ended our interest there and then.

"While Jimmy is on holiday with his family in Holland he is checking out other players he has in mind, but I don't expect to hear about anyone new in the next week or so.

"We are waiting until the English clubs reveal their lists of players to be freed and that should be about the middle of June."
