QPR SIGN WARREN

QUEENS PARK RANGERS have made their third signing of the close season by acquiring Bournemouth wing-back Christer Warren on a free transfer.

Warren's signing came as an added boost with Clarke Carlisle and Karl Connolly having already been snapped up by manager Gerry Francis.

The 25-year-old, who can either play wing-back or midfield, has signed a two-year deal with the Loftus Road outfit.

The Dorchester-born Warren started his career at Cheltenham Town, where he impressed as a striker for the Whaddon Road club.

Premiership side Southampton payed £40,000 for him in 1995, but the competition for spots restricted Warren to one Premiership appearance and seven substitute appearances.

Short loan spells at Brighton and Fulham ensued but, in October 1997, Bournemouth swooped up Warren for £50,000 and he repaid them with a debut goal at Preston North End.

His versatility to play in various positions made Bournemouth manager Mel Machin recognise Warren's usefulness as both a midfielder and striker before he converted to a left-wing-back role after The Cherries sold Jamie Vincent to Huddersfield in 1998.

Warren spent all of last season in that role and the QPR boss was keeping a close eye before making an approach to sign the player, who spent two and a half years at Bournemouth, making 110 appearances and scoring 14 goals.
