GINOLA WANTS £3 MILLION A YEAR

DAVID GINOLA has reportedly shocked the clubs clamouring to sign him from Tottenham, by asking to be made the best paid player in England.

The mercurial Frenchman looked set to leave after Spurs agreed a £3 million fee with Aston Villa, and Everton were also said to be interested in signing the star following the news that Ginola was available.

However, the relatively small fee for the 33-year-old is made considerably larger with an alleged three-year £9 million deal - a contract that would be the largest in Premiership football.

Massive controversy surrounded English champions Manchester United's decision to break their wage structure to accommodate influential captain Roy Keane - giving the Irishman £52,000 a week, around £2.7 million a year.

But some would argue that a European Cup winning captain is better placed for such a large wage than a player who, despite his outrageous talent, has just a solitary Worthington Cup win to show for his time in England.
