BISHOP AGREES NEW CITY DEAL

VETERAN Manchester City midfielder Ian Bishop has finally agreed to sign a one-year extension to his contract at Maine Road.

Bishop (pictured) had been holding out for a two-year deal, but has reached an agreement with manager Joe Royle and has said that he will sign the new deal upon his return for pre-season training.

"I'll be quite happy to end my days at Maine Road," Bishop told the official City website. "I love the place, that is why I came back from West Ham."

The 35-year-old's agreement completes a trio of contract extensions at City, with experienced pair Richard Jobson and Tommy Wright having already agreed one-year extensions on their current deals with the club.

Royle has nicknamed the trio  'the three wise men', and with a combined age of over 100, the manager knows that their experience will be vital to the club's Premiership campaign next term, following their return to the top-flight last season.

Bishop added: "I have plenty of experience and I feel I still have plenty to contribute both on the pitch and the training ground."
