BABB TO JOIN MAHON ABROAD?

LIVERPOOL defender Phil Babb looks set to join fellow Republic of Ireland international Alan Mahon in a move to Portuguese side Sporting Lisbon.

Babb shares the same agent as want-away Tranmere midfielder Mahon, and played with the 22-year-old during his loan spell at Prenton Park towards the end of last season.

Babb has played over 150 games for Liverpool since joining the club from Coventry for a then club record £3.6 million in 1994, winning 30 caps and scoring four international goals throughout an illustrious career, that peaked during the 1994 World Cup.

Tranmere boss John Aldridge has already been hit by the news that he is set to miss out on a transfer fee for midfielder Mahon, should he complete his move to Sporting Lisbon, and was reported to be interested in securing Babb permanently, after signing him on loan in January of this year.
