BURGESS IN SHOCK ENGLAND BID
THE testimonial committee for Daryl Burgess have tried a remarkable coup for the long-serving West Brom defender by attempting to get a friendly against an England XI before the first World Cup qualifying game in October.
Although the idea is unlikely to come off for the Baggies stalwart, who has now been a professional at The Hawthorns for 11 years, the FA have agreed to give the offer full consideration.
"We know it's a bit of a long shot but this would be a real coup for Daryl, as well as Albion, if it came off," a spokesman for the testimonial committee confirmed.
"We have already mentioned the idea to manager Gary Megson and he is okay about it.
"A match against England would pack the Hawthorns to the rafters and also give Keegan a chance for some match practice before the start of the World Cup campaign in October."
