BARCA NO TO PETIT, YES TO OVERMARS

EMMANUEL PETIT has been priced out of a move to Barcelona, but the Catalan club remain keen on his Arsenal team-mate Marc Overmars.

Dutch winger Overmars is still believed to be the "priority" target of Llorenc Serra Ferrer with his two-goal display against Yugoslavia in Euro 2000 helping to cement his position at the top of Barca`s list of summer targets.

With Boudewijn Zenden`s future at Camp Nou uncertain, the pacey Gunners winger is an ideal candidate to play on the left flank, while Luis Figo parades down the right.

Robert Pires` arrival at Highbury has placed a major question mark over Overmars` future, and he had looked certain to move to Barca if Louis van Gaal had stayed as coach.

However, Arsene Wenger will not let the former Ajax flyer go cheaply, as Petit has discovered.

Barcelona are believed to have thought long and hard about bringing the French midfielder to Spain, only to decide that The Gunners would want too high a fee for him - at least £7 million.

Also, they considered that such an outlay was not too financially sound, because Petit is 30 in September, and would not have major sell-on potential.
