MAKELELE FEE SET - MAZINHO RELEASED

The 27-year-old French midfielder was thought to be set for a move to Valencia last month and had refused to return to Celta for pre-season training.

"Celta have set an amount, and if someone pays it and reaches an agreement with Makelele then he will leave Celta," club chairman Horacio Gomez said.

"We have set a fair amount, because Makelele is Celta's best player and one of the best midfielders in Spain."

Real Madrid and Arsenal are also believed to be interested in Makelele. 

Meanwhile, Celta also announced on Thursday that they have terminated the contract of Brazilian international.

The Brazilian midfielder, who was part of his country`s 1994 World Cup winning side, and has been at Celta four years since moving from Valencia, but persistent knee injuries have dogged the player over the last twelve months allowing him to start just one game in la Liga.

The club released a statement saying: "We would like to thank Mazinho for his role as one of the main architects of the recent success of Celta Vigo."

Mazinho is likely to return to Brazil to continue pursue a career in coaching.
