CURETON WANTS TO LEAVE ROVERS

BRISTOL ROVERS striker Jamie Cureton has revealed that he wants to leave the club, just days after fellow hit-man Jason Roberts asked for a transfer.

Cureton has not put in a transfer request, but has told manager Ian Holloway that he wants to leave to move up a division, following Rovers' failed promotion bid last season, and has now been told to stay away from the club until he decides where hisn future lies.

The 24-year-old former Norwich City star admitted: "I asked Ian's advice about my future and whether I should hand in a transfer request.

"I'm disappointed we missed out on promotion and would like to better myself and play for a big club. Those were my thoughts and he seemed quite happy with that, so I don't know why he's now saying I've asked for a transfer.

"Ian said there was no need to hand in a transfer request and I will now have to think about that. I'm a bit shocked at the moment but that's football.

He revealed that this was not an instant decision, adding: "I have had this in mind for some time that if we didn't go up, it might be time for a change as I've been here for four years now."

Holloway is not taking Cureton or Roberts to a pre-season tour of Ireland, and said: "I don't want a bad atmosphere around the place.

"I can understand why they want to move and better themselves, but why do they want to do it now. No player is bigger than the club and we will just go on and become stronger.

"There was life after Marcus Stewart and Barry Hayles and there will be life after Roberts and Cureton."
