FIGO A GO-GO

LUIS FIGO has been officially unveiled as the most expensive player in world football after finalising his shocking move across Spain from Barcelona to Real Madrid.

In a move that has sent shockwaves throughout La Liga, the Euro 2000 star fulfills the promise of new Real president Florentino Perez to unveil the 27-year-old as the biggest signing of the summer.

After previously declaring his great love for Barcelona, both the club and the city, the patriotic Catalan support will be incensed with the Portuguese international`s defection to the capital, and he is certain to face a hostile reception when he returns to Camp Nou next season.

Figo signed a six-year contract at the Santiago Bernabeu, with the fee close to £40 million, after Real met his buy-out clause at Barca.

The record capture will wear the number ten shirt at his new club, a jersey that was left vacant after Clarence Seedorf`s move to Inter, and the repercussions of the deal will reverberate throughout European football for some time.

"I want to relay that I am very contented," said Figo. "I hope, with my work, to contribute to raising the name of Real Madrid.

"I want to be as happy as I have been in Barcelona."
