NJANKA IN BLACK CATS TRIAL
The Cameroon international stopper travelled to Wearside earlier in July and could make the move permanent if he impresses Black Cats boss Peter Reid (pictured) during his stay.
A fee has yet to be discussed for the 25-year-old, but it is rumoured that Strasbourg coach Claude le Roy is keen to offload Njanka to free a non-EU place in his squad.
This would enable him to recall Senegalese forward Henri Camara from his enforced loan spell at Swiss side Neuchatel Xamax.
Njanka played in Sunderland’s 2-2 friendly draw with Mechelen and Reid is keen to take a further look, possibly against Porto on Saturday.
Speaking to the official Sunderland website, Reid said: "I liked the look of Pierre. He's a good player and I'll be keeping him with us for a little longer to take a look.
"I thought he had a very good game against Mechelen. He's got pace and these games are good for being able to have a chance to check out different players.
"I'll definitely be having a word with his club because I thought he was very strong in this game and he's done well in training."
If completed, the capture would be Reid’s third defensive signing of the month, after he swooped for Julio Arca from Argentinos Juniors and Stanislav Varga from Slovan Bratislava.
