RIDSDALE REITERATES SIGNING PLEDGE

LEEDS UNITED chairman Peter Ridsdale has reiterated his pledge to smash the club's transfer record, and admitted that he is hoping to make three more signings within the coming weeks.

Leeds have already signed Olivier Dacourt in a club record £7.2 million deal this summer, and added £6 million striker Mark Viduka to the squad.

However, Ridsdale has again insisted that the record will be broken once again before the start of the season, on an as yet un-named player who is not on the transfer list, and that at least one other signing of the three will be made before the Premiership season kicks off.

He has played down reports that Monaco's Norwegian midfielder John Arne Riise is set to complete a £6.5 million move to Elland Road, despite the player's mother and agent admitting that there were only the "formalities" of the deal to be completed.

"It will be a significant signing," Ridsdale admitted. "The player in question is playing in England at the moment.

"He is not for sale to date, but I am still very hopeful that two new players will be brought to the club before the start of the season."

His comments are sure to spark further rumours that the club are targeting West Ham defender, who would cost around £15 million but would be expected to go to Barcelona if he leaves Upton Park, although The Hammers have stated their intention not sell him.
