TILLSON BECOMES A SADDLER

ANDY TILLSON has completed his move to Division Two rivals, Walsall, after signing a two-year contract on the weekend to complete his transfer to the Bescot Stadium from Bristol Rovers.

His move to The Saddlers was for around £10,000 and Tillson is expected to join the Walsall coaching staff with manager Ray Graydon.

Rovers assistant manager, Gary Penrice, paid tribute to Tillson's service with The Pirates as their centre-back, since signing in 1992 from Queens Park Rangers for club-record £375,000.

Penrice told the Western Daily Press: "Andy has been a great servant to Bristol Rovers and has done fantastically well in the time he has been at the club.

"But the move to Walsall represents a fantastic opportunity for him and we wish him all the best.

"His departure has not come at the best of times, with the injuries we've got, but Ollie (Ian Holloway) felt Andy had earned the right to make the decision for himself."

With Tillson's departure, Rovers are now looking for a new team captain, and Andy Thomson and Ronnie Mauge look to be favourites to succeed the defender.
