POMPEY SIGN MILLS
The 30-year-old saw his slim chances of first team action at Valley Parade almost disappear when Benito Carbone was signed this week, and decided to resurrect his career at Fratton Park.
The Bantams accepted a £1 million bid for Mills on Thursday, which could see another £1.25 million travel north depending on appearances, and he travelled immediately down to meet Pompey manager Tony Pulis to discuss personal terms and undergo a medical.
Both obstacles were cleared without serious problem and the player has sealed the move in time to play in the opening game of the season, a boost for Pulis who had only one senior striker - Lee Bradbury - available for selection.
Mills was the top scorer for Bradford in their promotion season in 1998-99, but he lost his place during the club's first Premiership campaign last season and went on loan to Manchester City, where he helped Joe Royle's side to promotion.
Pompey's striker signings may not, though, be over, after they had a £1.6 million bid for Bob Taylor accepted by Manchester City, although they face stiff competition from Wolves for his signature.
