Muamba #One2Eleven

Fabrice Muamba's career was cut short but he still played alongside some all-time greats...

Muamba came through the youth academy at Arsenal before spells at Birmingham and Bolton. He was also capped by England under-21s, and these are the best players that he came across...

Goalkeeper - Jussi Jaaskelainen

He always works very hard in training to do his best in goal. He’s also a good friend.

Right-back - Lauren

He;s one of the players that never got the credit. He was strong in that Invincibles side and also a leader in that team. He didn’t speak much but on the pitch he was always great. And in training he always looked after the young players.

Centre-back - Sol Campbell

Good guy. Off the pitch he’s a good guy, on the pitch he’s a top, top player. Very strong athletically and he could read a game. He does what he needed to do for a top centre-half. He would make a good managers because he knows how to speak to the young players.

Centre-back - Gary Cahill

He works so hard on his game at Bolton – his heading and his long passing. I couldn’t be more  happy to see play for England the way he does. I realised after the second training session ‘why is this guy here, he’s in the wrong team!’ Anybody who plays with him, ask the boys in the England team, says he’s a cool, calm and collected player but he’s also very, very strong.

Left-back - Ashley Cole

Ashley is the best in England, I don’t think we’ll get another left-back like him. Defensively he’s strong , his awareness is second to none.  Every time a player came through to the first-team Ashley always made them feel welcome.

Right wing - Lee Chung-Yong

People don’t see how good this kid is until you see him train every day. I’m surprised Bolton still have him now because he would walk into any top four side. And he’s so polite!

Central midfield - Patrick Vieira

Those who get a chance to work under him will tell you he’s a real leader. Every boy in the academy at Arsenal was given a DVD of Patrick . Even if you play right-wing or left-wing you’re given one.

Central midfield - Stuart Holden

He’s been unlucky with injuries but he;s a player I really enjoyed playing with. He understood my game. All we had to do was look at each other in the face and we knew what we were doing.

Left wing - Ricardo Gardner

Awesome. You don’t appreciate what you have in your team until you don’t have him – maybe that’s what people don’t notice. He is a leader. He doesn’t speak much but he has a presence in the changing rooms. When I moved to Bolton he was one of the players to put me at ease.

Striker - Thierry Henry

I don’t know where to start with this guy.  If you know him as a person you’d have a different perspective of him. When I had my accident , all the players came through the front doors and there were a lot of cameras. Thierry flew from New York and came through the back door, saw me, and went back. He is a good guy.

Striker - Dennis Bergkamp

I had the priviledge to work with Dennis, an unbelievable footballer. Some people, it takes them a couple of weeks to get their touch going but Dennis didn’t need that. Even when he was getting on to retirement he trained properly – young players were like ‘wow’.
