WEIR SIGNS NEW DEAL

EVERTON defender David Weir has just signed a new contract that will keep him at Goodison Park for another four years.

The Scotland international arrived at Everton from Hearts in February 1999 for a fee of £2000,000 and Walter Smith is happy the 30-year-old has decided to stay on Merseyside.

"He is one of the best buys I have made since I came to Everton," said Smith.

Meanwhile, Alessandro Pistone and Duncan Ferguson are both doubtful for the next game against Derby as both suffered knocks in the win against Charlton.
