HESKEY MAY MISS FRENCH CLASH

LIVERPOOL striker Emile Heskey has emerged as a doubt for England's friendly with France on September 2, after Reds boss Gerard Houllier ruled him out of the trip to Southampton on Saturday.

The £11 million striker limped out of the 2-0 defeat by Arsenal on Monday, after injuring his knee against Bradford on Saturday, and it is likely that he will have to withdraw from Kevin Keegan's international party.

Anfield boss Houllier confirmed that Heskey will not be making the trip to the South Coast, saying: "Emile will not play at Southampton and I doubt he will be fit for the national team. His knee is still very sore."

If he misses the clash with the World and European Champions, it will be a major blow to the former Leicester man, as he would have been hoping to push for the striker slot vacated by Alan Shearer.
