VIERI BACK WITH A BANG

CHRISTIAN VIERI marked his return from injury with a goal, as Internazionale romped to a 12-0 win over amateur side Real Athletico Brianzo.

The powerful Italian international has been on the sidelines for five months due to a thigh injury that forced him to miss Euro 2000.

However, he has worked alone all summer on strengthening the leg and revealed his delight at making a return.

"I am very happy," he said. "Everything is progressing well. I am gaining confidence on the ball.

"Today is another step in the right direction. I will now start to train with the rest of the team."

Vieri's return to action will be a major boost to coach Marcelo Lippi, as he is still without injured pair Ronaldo and Alvaro Recoba.
