REBROV INSPIRES SPURS COMEBACK

IN a proverbial game of two halves, Sergeui Rebrov scored his first goals for Tottenham as George Graham`s side recovered from a two-goal deficit to run out 3-2 victors over Everton at White Hart Lane.

The Ukrainian international netted just before half time to give George Graham`s side hope going into the second half and then added a second from the penalty spot, before Les Ferdinand`s strike sealed Spurs` victory which takes them above Arsenal into second place in the Premiership - at least for 24 hours.

The night started well for the travelling Everton fans as they dominated the first hald and Francis Jeffers broke the deadlock after twenty-five minutes when he intercepted Ben Thatcher`s weak back pass to toe-poke past Neil Sullivan in the Tottenham goal.

As Everton controlled the first half Paul Gascoigne was bossing the midfield on his return to White Hart Lane along with Alex Nyarko, who netted The Toffees` second in some style.

The Cameroonian international dispossessed Tim Sherwood in midfield before racing towards the Spurs goal and smashing an unstoppable 25-yard effort into the Totttenham goal.

Rebrov`s first goal could hardly have come at a more crucial time though as it gave a lifeline to what seemed a hopeless cause. Stephen Clemence`s free kick reached Les Ferdinand and his effort came back off the post, giving the former Dinamo Kiev star the simple task of tapping home.

15 minutes after the restart, Rebrov equalised from the penalty spot after Thomas Gravesen handled in the box during a melee, following Paul Gerrard`s parry of a Les Ferdinand header.

Two minutes later, Les Ferdinand poked home after Sherwood headed down Clemence`s cross.

Walter Smith threw caution to the wind in the closing stages bringing on Joe Max-Moore and Danny Cadamarteri, but the home side held on for a thrilling victory.
